Former Creighton superstar Doug McDermott has been nominated along with five others for the "Best Male College Athlete" ESPY Award.
McDermott had an incredible season, averaging 26.7 points per game, 7.0 rebounds per game and 1.6 assists per game for the Creighton Bluejays in his senior campaign with the team. He went on to win the National Player of the Year, John R. Wooden award, and led his team to the Big East Tournament Championship and the NCAA Tournament as well.
Although McDermott is facing some tough competition to win the award with Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston leading the group of premier athletes in a multitude of sports, he still should be a prime contender to win the award.
Voting for the ESPY awards will take place up until 8 PM central time on July 16th, which is when the show starts on ESPN.
