Received an offer from DePaul University today!— Xavier Bishop (@XaTheeGreaat5) June 19, 2014
Straight from the horse's mouth, 2016 Lanphier (IL) guard Xavier Bishop has received a scholarship offer from DePaul University.
The incoming high school junior averaged 18.6 points per game this past season, leading Springfield Lanphier to a 27-2 record and an Illinois Class 3A Southeast Regional Championship. Bishop also accumulated 2.6 assists and nearly 2 boards a game. The 5-foot-8 guard is also a sharpshooter from beyond the arc. Bishop had a monster third quarter against Sacred Heart-Griffin (IL) in the Class 3A Regional Title game, knocking down six threes and scoring 22 points, finishing 8-for-13 from 3-point range en route to a 34-point performance in the championship. Bishop led the Lions with 24 points in their sectional semifinal bout against Champaign Central.
On a team with Xavier recruit and ESPN.com-rated 3-star guard Larry Austin, it was Bishop who commanded a great deal of attention for Lanphier last season with his shooting prowess, excellent court vision, and ball-handling skills. Bishop is ranked as a 2-star prospect by VerbalCommits.com. That very well could change with two years of prep ball left, and two years to grow his 5-foot-8, 155-pound frame. Bishop has also been targeted by Central Michigan, and Southern Illinois Edwardsville - two teams that currently have a more glaring need at the point guard position than the Blue Demons. But if head coach Oliver Purnell could snatch up this long-range threat, he could become a major in-state coup for DePaul.
