Big East Expansion Update: Boise State President Bob Kustra: 'Too Late' For 2012 Move
Foiled again. A rumor we were hoping was true was that the Big East was putting pressure on Boise State to replace West Virginia for the 2012 football season.
Boise State president Bob Kustra ended those hopes today saying that his school couldn't make a move for 2012.
"It's too late. I can't imagine how anyone can pull that off. We would never want to pull it off in a fashion that dealt shabbily with our existing partners in the Mountain West. I don't think that could ever work," Kustra said.
Now it's back to the drawing board for ideas on what to do if (and it doesn't seem like a big if) West Virginia leaves for the Big 12 no matter what happens with the lawsuits.

Who I choose for 2012 Big East season expansion emrgency
I think Temple gets the 1st opportunity followed by Memphis and lastly East Carolina. The only other option I see is Nova and they have been idle too long to be seriously considered. Hmmm; Now that WVU is out, Marshall …. naaaa. :-)

Why let WVU leave now?
If they go, bring in the Big XII as a defendant to get whatever damages are incurred. The BE should not settle this lawsuit and should not have asked Boise to come in early. Just because WV can’t read an agreement it drafted doesn’t mean we let them slide.
They'll settle
There’s no sacred principles involved here, only money. it’s not the maiden’s honor, it the currency of whores.
Face the facts. WVU is leaving. Get over it and move on.
West Virginia fans hate everybody. They remember every snub and joke and bit of snark. And they never forgive, and they never, ever forget. In other words, they're a lot like West Virginians in general.

Seems like you are the only one
That needs to get over it and move on. Please leave. Now!

The Big East isn't "letting them leave", anymore than we let TCU leave.
They’re leaving and we can’t stop them. That was decided when the RI judge set an April date for the hearing on an injunction—if the judge thought that the case for an immediate injunction was close, he wouldn’t have put it off until April. We lost. They won.
Suing the Big XII won’t change that.
The question is how are we going to fill the 7 empty spots on the schedule. Boise State was the most logical choice—the MWC bylaws allow an early exit for an extra fee, and Boise State is a comparable opponent to West Virginia for TV, strength-of-schedule and bowl purposes.
We can’t get anyone from C-USA. Villanova will still block Temple, and I don’t know if Temple can get out of the MAC for next year.
So we’re going to have 7 Big East football members, and we’re going to have to scrounge up 7 different opponents.
San Diego State probably has to at least consider it for a moment
But Boise’s misgivings about burning their existing partners in the MWC applies even more to the Aztecs. They’ll want to maintain good relations with rivals like Fresno and UNLV.
I just don'e see the BE...
Getting any school to join next year. I think Air Force is still in line to join, but we shall see. I would suggest that the six incoming schools and ND work out a deal to play one of the remaining BE schools. That will cover the open game left by WVU. Otherwise the Big 12 and WVU sucks nuts. I hope WVU sucks for years to come! A pox on both their houses!
High five Big East
We don’t have to play Pitt! Its like watching paint dry when they are on the field. God help us!

easy Vinnie
you’re settling back into troll roll again. Don’t forget that despite Pitt’s constants struggles and the like, they still finished above USF. :)

I could care less if WVU leaves...
…but if they can’t follow the rules they helped write, and if that causes monetary damages to the members of the conference then we continue the lawsuit. No biggie. If we could have all the new teams come in 2012, they everyone should be able to go now. But that’s not the case. Act like a Univeristy with some speck of values. I remember when West Virginia begged to get into this league. There’s a vote St. John’s should have voted no on.
That's all great and everything....
…..but it still leaves USF, Rutgers, Cincinatti, Louisville, UConn, Pitt and Syracuse short a football game next year.
I agree...
…and that is the only reason WV should be forced to stay and why if they decide to just go the Big XII should be added as a defendant. BE football will lose a lot of cash if it falls to just seven members.
Forced by Whom? The Big East can't force WV to do anything. The judge can...
…but he’s probably not going to.
Suing the Big 12 might succeed and might make the Big 12 pay damages. That STILL doesn’t fix the problem.
here's what's possible
according to fbschedules.com, assuming WVU moves and the only games anyone will drop are a second (or more) FCS game.
ACC
- Florida State (already playing USF)
- NC State currently has two FCS teams scheduled (already playing UConn)
(FSU and NC State will be in Syracuse’s division in the ACC; both ACC schools may be inclined to help their future conference members)
Big 12
- Oklahoma (2)
- OKlahoma State
(may be inclined to schedule Big East schools if it helps smooth over WVU’s transition)
Big Ten
- Nebraska
CUSA
- UAB
- UTEP
(may not want to schedule Big East schools)
MWC
- Bosie State (allowed a 13th game due to playing @Hawaii)
(may want to help their future conference)
SEC
- Arkansas
- Texas A&M (2)
Sun Belt
- Middle Tennessee
- North Texas
- UL-Lafayette
WAC
- UTSA currently has four FCS teams scheduled
I’d figure FSU, the Oklahoma schools, Boise, and Texas A&M are the best bets other than a second FCS school. The first four have an opening and reason to help out (Oklahoma has two openings and reason to help out), while Texas A&M just has two openings and so really needs someone. If all of their openings were used on Big East schools, that would do it, but it’s likely some won’t be, so someone Rutgers will end up with two FCS schools.
The best choice would be either UCF, Houston or SMU to join in 2012. If the Big East adds a team from CUSA in 2012, it will be one of the three that’s already going to join. I guess in case of no other options they could invite Temple or UMASS. These schools are going to be football only members of the MAC next year, with their other sports in the A10. Both have good TV markets(Boston/Philadelphia), and could be football only members if necessary. One of them(UMASS/Temple) would obviously be a last resort.
Villanova needs to swallow their pride and allow Temple back in
Or I need to win Powerball so I can cover a departure penalty for UCF.
Okay, somebody in the Big East has made this necessary. "BC" in my nickname references the icon. I AM NOT A BOSTON COLLEGE FAN.
