Big East Expansion Update: 3:00 P.M. Teleconference To Announce Addition Of Navy
The Big East will host a teleconference today at 3:00 p.m. to announce the future addition of Navy as a football playing member in 2015. The official release states the call will address conference membership, but reports began to trickle out last night that Navy will join the conference and announce that decision today. Big East commissioner John Marinatto, Navy athletic director Chet Gladchuk, Vice Admiral Michael Miller, and football coach Ken Niumatalolo will all be on the call to field questions from the media.
Navy joining the Big East in 2015 still leaves the conference in need of one additional future member to reach 12 teams, have divisional play, and have a conference championship game. Who that 12th member will be and when they will join the Big East remains to be seen. How the conference will exist in 2013 and 2014 with new members joining and old members still possibly being in the league for one more year will also present challenges for Big East leadership.
What questions would you like to see addressed on the call this afternoon? Let us know in the comments below. Big East Coast Bias will be on the call and try to get your questions asked and answered.
Stay tuned to Big East Coast Bias and in particular our Big East Expansion section for any additional news on potential new additions to the conference.

If Navy, why not Army?
They are in the NYC media footprint, historic Eastern football power, and Army-Navy would be a great showcase for the big east.
Orange you glad it's not football season?

Army had a brief -and disastrous- stint in Conference USA and has no desire to join a conference.

Good news for the Big East...
…but who knows what will happen between now and 2015.

Big East will not Stop at 12 (14 is their TARGET)
Doesn’t take much to “Read between the Lines” when John Marinatto speaks. They will announce Navy today but will add not one but three more football schools by the 2015 (or before). Rumors have been rampant about MEMPHIS, East Carolina and TEMPLE. Who knows it could be any other scools, but you can count on this; The Big East is negotiating their TV Contract in September and having a plan in place with as many teams as the SEC and ACC is a huge plus. Three more schools in new markets could mean many more dollars ! Are there any other rumors out there about other Schools ??
The only reason the Big East might not stop at 12
… is if they’re convinced more schools are on the way out. There aren’t really good options to get to 12, especially since the deals with Boise and SDSU make it extremely likely that #12 is going to be a western school.
