Big East Expansion Update: Navy Reportedly To Announce Tuesday They Are Joining Big East In 2015

The Navy Midshipmen are all set to announce on Jan. 24 that they will join the Big East in football in 2015, according to a CBS Sports report. The move itself isn't really that surprising as we heard from Navy in December that they were still interested in joining but couldn't make the move before 2014 because of scheduling.

The Big East added Boise State, Houston, San Diego State, SMU and UCF last month. Those schools will join the conference in 2013. Boise State and San Diego State will be football only members while Houston, SMU and UCF are joining in all sports.

Even with Navy, that would still leave the conference one team short of the 12 members necessary to go to divisions and play a conference championship game.

Both and add one more; maybe Fresno State (or Nevada)

Change name to BIG XIV (that is 14 for the roman-numeral challenged folks).

We already have Big 10 and the Big 12, let’s one up all of them and create the BIG 14!

They should go to 14

I think they should add 2 schools for 2013 and one more with Navy in 2015. This would allow the BE to play a championship game in 2013. As for the schools to add in 2013 I say they should look west as revisit BYU which is a long shot. If not maybe Air Force will change its mind. If not other options would include Nevada and/or Tulsa. Another option could be to add one eastern school along with one western school. Temple or ECU might be good. Memphis meh… whatever.

As for the other school to come in with Navy I say Villanova can upgrade if Temple gets the invite.
