The Big East Was the Third Best Conference Over the Last Four Years

Bragging rights! Bill Connelly over at Football Study Hall has put up the Four-Year F/+ Averages and the Big East ranked behind only the SEC and PAC 10 in the rankings. Take that ACC! The F/+ is a combination of the FEI (Fremeau Efficiency Index) and S&P+ ratings. Ok, so what are those? The FEI looks at every possession during the season with clock kills in the first half, garbage time and scoring being excised from the data. S&P+ is created from play-by-play data from the whole season from every FBS team and is comprised of success rate: 50% of yards needed on 1st down, 70% on third down and 100% on 3rd or 4th down; PPP (points per play) which measures explosiveness based on the points one is expect to gain from a particular yard line; and opponent adjustments (think strength of schedule).
